Regions
and Sections - New Governance effective January 1, 2004
The
Society has 16 Sections, grouped into five Regions. Each Region
is represented on the Council and Executive Committee by elected
Vice Presidents of the Society.
Part
of the change in SNAME’s new governance passed at the
2003 Business Session at the Annual Meeting involved creating
an International Region, and reducing the number of Vice Presidents
representing each region from three to two. The Regional Vice
Presidents will each serve four-year terms, the first two
years on the Executive Committee and an additional two years
on Council. Each region, will therefore, select a new Vice
President every other year. To provide for continuity of the
Vice Presidents on the Executive Committee, the elections
will be staggered, with the Mid-Atlantic, Central and International
regions electing Vice Presidents in odd years (2003, 2005,
etc.), and the other regions electing their Vice Presidents
in even years. (At the present time there is an overlap of
RVPs resulting from elections under the previous Bylaws.)
Each
of the Sections host local meetings, see the Events
Calendar for additional information.
In
addition, many Sections sponsor Student
Sections at schools in their geographical areas.

Administration of Section
activities is described in the Sections Manual, Section
Manual online for procedural information on such items as meetings,
papers, committees, publicity, membership, finances, key dates and
liaison with headquarters. General policy matters with respect to
Section operations are the responsibility of the Sections Committee.
